1.1. Centralized vs Decentralized vs Sufficiently Decentralized SocialFi
Web2 - Centralized Web2 Social media is centralized and highly regulated in that users' content is censored by the platforms as per the wishes of the platform owners. High content throughput means that users can consume content at high speeds, but they have no control over the connections they make on social media and can't take those connections elsewhere.
Web3 - Decentralized Social media built on the blockchain are unregulated, content is uncensorable and policy rules are open source. Community members and token holders own these platforms and take decision through voting. It takes time to load basic image and video content, so one is required to sign transactions and pay fees for every little interaction.
Web2 + Web3 - Sufficiently Decentralized By using web2 +web3, we can take advantage of the scalability and high throughput content. Only the most important parts of a piece of the platform are on blockchain, while the rest is stored in databases. This allows us to increase both the throughput and the usefulness of many pieces of content while still giving creators total ownership over their work. Gas fees are minimal and sign-in transactions are reduced.
